It sucked that I needed to be with Caleb for my first shopping trip on this big project. But he was adamant about accompanying me. I guess he was just as excited as I was for this project I was undertaking and wanted to be part of it.
As we looked around at the couches, Caleb didnât interfere when I looked at certain styles. But he couldnât resist giving his input on a few things. At times I imagined if this was how life would be if we were a mated pack.
âHow about this couch?â he asked, sinking into a large black sectional sofa.
âItâll make the house too dark,â I said, sitting on the other end.
âBut itâs comfortable.â
It was indeed comfortable, but I needed to stick to my guns and not be pushed around. I was the designer, and I had a certain vision for the house.
âYeah, I donât like it,â I said. It didnât match my overall vision. A couple of beta females walked by us, staring at Caleb and giggling. My face heated, and I wasnât ready for the turmoil I faced inside me. I didnât like it, but I tried my best not to show that I was jealous. I didnât have a claim on Caleb in any way.
âOkay, how about that one?â he said, pointing to a beige couch. I immediately got up and walked over to it.
âIt looks perfect,â I breathed as I stared at the sectional. It was a nice sleek design that wasnât overwhelming and looked just as cozy as the first couch we saw.
âGood, looks like weâre done here,â he said, smiling at me. I realized we were standing too close to each other, so I pulled away, pretending to look at the couch some more. âI have to ask you something.â
âYes?â
âHave you been taking your heat suppressants? You seem more skittish around me lately,â he observed as I moved far away from him.
âNo,â I said.
âWhy not?â
âI lost them. The landlady must have taken them,â I said, and it was way too expensive for me to get more. If I ever went into heat, I would probably just go to a heat center for omegas where alphas were waiting on demand to help me through a heat. An omega needed multiple mates to knot inside her to stave away the pain. If an omega went too long without mating while in heat, she could put herself at risk.
âWe need to get you the suppressants right away,â he said worriedly. âIf you went into heat suddenly, it would activate my need to rut you. You donât want that do you?â
âNo,â I said slowly, even though my body was screaming that it would be nice to have him deep inside me. I craved to be near him always and for him to be there with me. But it wasnât meant to be.
âYou could be in preheat, and we donât even know it,â he said, studying my face.
âIâm not,â I said. I would probably know it right away, even though Iâve never actually been in heat.
