You have to think about your vision. You have to clarify your vision—clarify what you want, because if you don’t accomplish it, you’re not going to be satisfied. You may even give up or do something else. So focus on your vision, and don’t worry about what other people think. You’re the only one that knows what you want to do or accomplish with this artwork.

Making a successful piece doesn’t require it work out the way you intended. Instead, consider how to accomplish your personal goals in making the piece, and how to make it useful to the end user. It’s easy to get so focused on your intent for a particular section that you lose track of other ways to succeed. Checking your original Why for the piece, and seeing whether there really is a conflict, helps you remember that there may be other solutions.

BRAINSTORM WAYS TO MAKE IT MEET YOUR GOALS

Once you’ve put your finger on what needs to be fixed and why, don’t jump at the first solution. Take some time and think of other ways to solve the problem. Often the first few ideas won’t be as good as later ones, so investing a few more minutes to think of alternatives is usually worthwhile.
