Kerry. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up. This is Jericho.

He didn’t get an answer for a few long minutes. Jericho called for the car and wished like hell he’d brought one of his own.

I’m home.

My place?

No. Home.

Can I have an address? I’ll come get you.

The phone buzzed again with an address. Jericho gave the address to the driver as soon as he slid into the backseat, and spent the drive to Kerry’s place in silence. He felt kind of bad, to be honest. He wasn’t really all that good at apologizing, though. And he was still pissed at Kerry for leaving the premiere. It was his job to stay. And Jericho had kind of liked knowing he was there waiting in the background. Whatever sense that made.

Kerry’s apartment building wasn’t anything special. Kind of crappy. Jericho was less than impressed. He texted Kerry again and asked if he wanted him to come up or if he was going to come down. Kerry said he’d be down in a minute. Jericho didn’t know if it was possible to read tone from a text, but he sure as hell didn’t seem enthused to be hearing from Jericho. Or getting in a car with him.

When he came down, he wasn’t wearing the gorgeous tailored suit anymore, but instead an old pair of sweats that hung off his hips and round little butt, and a thin T-shirt. He had on flip-flops and glasses, and Jericho wanted to eat him. He remembered kissing him earlier, the sweet shock, and the way Kerry melted into his touch. He… wanted to do it again. No act necessary. Which wasn’t exactly the best idea in the world.

“What?” Kerry said.

“You getting in the car?” He noticed Kerry had his wallet and keys, so he had to expect to go back with Jericho.

“Yeah. Fine.” Kerry slid in. He didn’t say anything else to Jericho, though, just looked out the window.

“I’m sorry I ditched you in there,” Jericho said. “You didn’t have to leave, you know. I was trying to find you.”

“When you texted? I was already home by then.”

“Why’d you leave?” Jericho asked. “You were supposed to stay. People will have noticed that I’m gone.” He knew he sounded snappy. It wasn’t easy for him to let go of his irritation, even if he’d been partly to blame.

“She called me a whore, Jericho. She said you’d get tired of me and go back to women, which is fine. I don’t really care about that, but she called me a whore. I couldn’t stay there anymore.”

Jericho didn’t know what made him do it, but he reached out and pulled Kerry into a hug.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I think I’ve really misjudged you, and no matter what, you didn’t deserve that.”

“You think?” Kerry asked. He snorted, but it sounded more like he was trying to get rid of tears than show actual sarcasm.

“Yeah. I think.” Jericho felt a hard, guilty pit in his stomach. He thought he was savvier than that, better at judging people and dealing with them accordingly.
