He came close to telling her everything while they sat by the creek. When she said she didn’t care about his past. He wanted to. Stella’s words from earlier in the week haunted him all day Monday, and he stopped in front of the closed salon to look in. Could he be part of her life, without ruining it?

It felt like a fairy tale. Something someone out of touch with reality would believe. He sat down on a bench in front of the March Hair to eat his lunch and try to clear his head. What was the worst-case scenario? Alice. It was always about losing Alice. But what would worst-case be for March, if he dragged her into it? His mom could ruin her. Her business would collapse. Her livelihood would be gone. If she stuck around, could he support her? Would he want to if he didn’t have Alice?

He shook his head. He would never stop fighting for Alice. No matter what. And he couldn’t bring his mind to imagine a world where she wasn’t in his life every day. That just wouldn’t happen.

That was it then. He stood up. Resolved. He wouldn’t let the worst happen, and he felt like he could handle everything else. He’d just have to man up, and ask her out.
