WICKED

“In Maine,” says Amy Bouchard of Wicked Whoopies, “when something is good, we call it ‘good.’ When something is great, we call it ‘wicked.’”

Despite the size of her bakery’s business today, Bouchard still takes mail orders personally and still shops for special cards to enclose with a handwritten greeting to mark whatever the occasion— birthdays, graduations, friendship. One of her mottos is “making smiles every day.”

Back when she launched her baking career, Amy chose whoopie pies simply because she loved them, and she still does. She uses the same recipe she used when she was sixteen, although she confesses she’s tweaked it a bit. She now produces fourteen flavors regularly for her wholesale trade, but in her retail shops, she says, she continues to try out new combinations. “I came out with all the flavors because I want to make everyone happy.”
