Chapter 5

YOU TOOK SOMETHING FROM ME

The four soldiers stepped through the portal in the late evening. The suspension bridge had low traffic. They looked around, but there was no sign of the Prime Minister or D’mitri. They waited over twenty minutes, but no one showed.

“Man, this dude is toying with us,” said Tenan as he aggressively paced back and forth with his gun in one hand. “I really want to show him that I’m more than a portal opener.”

“And how would you do that?” said a voice out of the darkness.

Startled, everyone pointed their weapons in the direction of the voice. A figure emerged from the darkness.

“Where’s the Prime Minister?” said Tenan.

“He’s safe. Where are my suits?”

“They’re on the other side of that portal,” said Tenan pointing to a circling black cloud of smoke that hovered vertically just a few feet behind him.

D’mitri leaned his head to the side to take a peep at the portal. With a smirk on his face, he shrugged his shoulders.

“Impressive,” said D’mitri. “But you don’t get the Prime Minister unless I get those suits back.”

“And you don’t get those suits back unless we get the Prime Minister,” said Aganathin with one hand on his axe and another on his gun pointed right at D’mitri.

D’mitri stepped out of the darkness to reveal himself. He was sporting his all-black Oramite suit and his thin black mask, generated by the Oramite, covered his face.

“Ha! This is going to be interesting,” taunted D’mitri. “Nonetheless, you all need the Prime Minister more than I need those Oramite suits back. You see, I’m here for principle. You took something that wasn’t yours, something that I gave to someone else. But I can make more of those. You can’t replace the Prime Minister.”

“Alright. Well that leaves us with one alternative,” said Tenan as he holstered his gun and pulled out his Oramite nunchucks, which were tucked in the back of his pants. “We whip you until you tell give us back the Prime Minister.”

In one quick motion, Tenan flung one end of his nunchucks at D’mitri. They extended and wrapped around his neck. Tenan pulled D’mitri towards him and met him with a fast and hard karate kick to the head, releasing the nunchucks from his neck. Tenan hit him in the head twice with the nunchucks and backed up. D’mitri stumbled back, the force of the hit knocking him off balance. He caught himself and steadied his stance. Laughing, he put his hands in fighting position.

“Alright. Those were good shots. Let’s get to it then.”

In just as quick a motion as Tenan was with his nun chucks, D’mitri pulled two guns from his hip and fired them at Tenan. A portal opened up and swallowed the bullets. Aganathin and K’nia scattered to take cover, unaware of Tenan’s newfound skill. Rekluse stood next to her man and pulled her javelin out of the sheath that hung across her back. She hurled it at D’mitri, who blocked it with his forearm. He let out a yell as the Oramite tip of her javelin penetrated his suit.
