Chapter 30
Part 9
âYeah, Iâm sure Nytia,â Trey repeated, annoyed for the third time. It was Thanksgiving morning, and they were en route to his motherâs house to spend the first half of the day with his family. It would be Nytiaâs first time officially meeting Treyâs family in person, and she was a ball of nerves. Not to mention she had never taken part in a pagan holiday before.
âWell, what if your sisters donât like me?â Nytia blurted out another question as she watched the trees fly past them. She took in the unfamiliar surroundings and looked every which way.
âDa fuck are you nervous bout?â Trey leaned forward to turn the music down since apparently loud volumes didnât deter her from still asking questions. He couldnât believe her behavior right now. He hadnât known her to be insecure. Trey increased his speed. The sooner he got to his familyâs home, the better. Nytia was wearing on his nerves and he needed some distance from her soon before he did something he regretted to make her ass temporarily shut the hell up.
âBabeeeee,â Nytia whined. âNo one has ever introduced me to anyoneâs family before. Let alone celebrate a pagan tradition. I donât know what to expect!â Nytia tried to ration. They had been with each for a few months and a week ago was the first time that he ever mentioned meeting his family. She just figured that he would bring her around to his family whenever he was ready. Thanksgiving was the perfect time to introduce his family to her. His mom was constantly in his ear about wanting to meet the âlittle girlâ in her sonâs life that he trusted enough to let in his home to cook his meals and do his laundry. Typically, she was reserved for that role. Lately, when his mom called to say that she was coming over to do laundry or cook a meal, heâd say that Nytia had him covered. She never saw her, but traces of Nytia's presence scatted around Trey's home.
She still saw him once a week when he stopped by to drop money off to her and his siblings, but she still missed talking to her son and being in his presence. Plus, it gave her a chance to get out of her neighborhood and venture back to the city.
âTheyâll love you. You have nothing to worry about.â Trey grabbed her knee to still her shaking leg. âAy, spark that weed yo. Your ass needs to chill the fuck out. You pissing yo nigga off.â Nytia sighed loudly, placing the blunt between her lips. She didnât know why she was tripping. Maybe she needed to get high to take some of the edge off. Itâs not like his mom is the local drug lord like my pops, she thought to herself. And knowing Trey, even if his family didnât like Nytia, he wouldnât let them show her otherwise. Heâd turn their lives upside down and hand their asses to them before he let them do that.
