Chapter 32
Ryan led me back outside and toward the area where weâd been sitting with the football team. I watched as Court led Bex away, craning my neck to see her until they disappeared around the side of the house.
âSheâs fine,â Ryan groused, his fingers still twisted around mine as he pulled me past the ring of chairs by the firepit our group had taken over. He tugged me to the far side of the pool, where people were shrieking and splashing.
He stopped in front of a set of wicker outdoor furniture that was unoccupied and dropped his large frame into a chair. I moved to sit across from him, but he jerked me forward until he had arranged me straddling his lap.
I squeaked in alarm as my dress bunched indecently high on my legs. A second later his hands came to rest on the exposed skin of my thighs.
âRyan!â I whisper-hissed, trying to scoot back so that my crotch wasnât pressed to his, but all that did was grind us together with enough friction that lights flashed behind my eyes and I had to bite back a moan.
He smirked. âRelax. No one can see you.â
I looked around, mildly satisfied to see that he had pulled me to the rear of the property where no one seemed inclined to gather. The hanging lanterns and twinkle lights barely cast shadows this far away from the house. The party was still in full swing, but no one could see me in the darkness here.
No one except for Ryan. If he glanced down, heâd have a clear shot at the pink lace panties I had picked out.
I was rapidly developing an addiction to matching underwear and all the frilly ways they came. My days of WalMart sports bras and cotton underwear were quickly becoming things of the past. I loved this pale pink set, but I hadnât planned on sharing it with anyone, let alone my fiancé.
To his credit, his blue eyes held mine and didnât wander below my chin.
I swallowed uneasily and resisted the urge to play with the ends of my hair. âWhat did you want to talk about?â
âIâd like to know why you just derailed all the ground-work I laid for your re-entrance into a social circle that wasnât subterranean, for starters,â he told me.
I lifted my chin a notch. âBrylee was a bitch to Bex.â
âBryleeâs a bitch to everyone,â he countered.
âYeah, well, Bex is my friend,â I shot back. âThat bullying shit doesnât fly with me.â
His fingers flexed on my skin. âYour sister spent years making Bex the human equivalent of a kickball at this school. You canât expect them to forget that overnight.â
âYou can,â I returned archly.
He paused. âWhat did you say?â
âYou made everyone forget that I was the campus pariah,â I added pointedly. âYou could do the same for Bex.â
His eyes narrowed. âI helped you because it helped me. Having my fiancée be the joke of the school doesnât benefit me at all.â
âBullshit,â I fired back without heat.
