Creating a Pool

To create a printer pool, open the Print & Scan component of System Preferences. In the list of printers on the left, select the printers you want to include by holding down Shift or Command when selecting them (just as you do when selecting files). On the right of the panel, a new button will appear: Create Printer Pool. Clicking this will let you create the pool, and the final step is to give it a name. Once you’re done, you’ll see the printer pool appear in the list of printers on the left.

All you need to do in the future is select the printer pool you created from the File→Print dialog box within any application, in the same way you’d select a single stand-alone printer. Printer pools have their own print queue, the icon for which will appear in the Dock when you print.
