Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of chemotherapy used to treat lung cancer. However, if you experience these side effects, your oncologist can prescribe medications that will help. If vomiting persists for twenty-four hours, notify your doctor. You may need to be admitted to the hospital for intravenous fluids and medication. Here are other tips for managing nausea and vomiting:

Take antinausea medications as directed.

Breathe deeply and slowly when you feel nauseated.

Drink six to eight glasses of water daily.

Eat small, frequent meals rather than three large ones.

Eat and drink slowly; chew foods well.

Avoid rich, spicy foods.

Suck on ice cubes, mints, or ginger candies (unless you have mouth sores).
