500 g floury potatoes

2 cups vegetable oil, for deep-frying

2 pinches of salt

tomato sauce (ketchup), to serve

EQUIPMENT

2 baking trays

paper towel

peeler

tea towel

chopping board

sharp knife

medium mixing bowl

measuring cups

large saucepan or deep-fryer

slotted spoon

tongs

Line two baking trays with paper towel.

Carefully peel the potatoes away from your body. Wash them well under cool water and dry them completely.

Cut the potatoes lengthways into ½ cm wide slices. Cut each slice lengthways again into ½ cm wide fries. Pat the fries dry with paper towel (this helps to prevent the oil splattering during the cooking process) and put them in a bowl.
