How does one explain it?

It was not a fond farewell. It felt as if it was being pried out of aching fingers. A final dire breath in the last sentence uttered to be remembered as a whole. Hanging off the ledge and the air crunching under your feet. The eternity of this free fall, after the stumbled step echoes through a reverberating oblivion, forcefully floats one towards a mundane and uninteresting landing. Wondering how hard the ground below will feel, and if you can take off running with broken limbs to scale the peak again. Left cold, alone, and in the dark with the warmth of a memory. The only light there is now is a reflection on the pavement from the rain that fell while we jousted upon the summit.

And to know it took months to climb and seconds to fall.

These seconds turn into months again with no escape as the unbreakable mirrors in the concrete are constant reminders of what was before.

Before you break someone’s heart, make sure you’re not in it.
