Chapter 10

Leticia dragged her tired body through the door. It had been a long day. She had been running around, getting last-minute items for the reception dinner and had a last-minute request to do a catering job for a dinner party for a friend of the Whitmores, who had recommended her. It had just wrapped up and, after helping her staff clean their kitchen, she was now able to come home and relax and see Derek. She had missed him today and had found it hard to concentrate. She had forgotten some of the stuff she needed to pick up and had to turn back a couple of times to get the missing items. One of the guests at the party had reminded her of Derek and the tender way he’d made love to her that morning.

Most times, the sex between them was intense and fast, but she loved when it was slow and sweet. She was already dreading that it had to end. They had been enjoying themselves these last couple of weeks, but this coming Saturday was the big day for Gayle, Jasper, Dominic and Cayla. Derek would be leaving soon after that.

As she dropped her bag down on the floor, she heard the heavy tread of his feet on the stairs. Then she heard that he was on the phone with someone.

“Okay, so your flight is coming in on Thursday. And what’s the name of the hotel you and Deana were going to book?”

He finally reached her and tucked the phone against his ear while he bent and grabbed her purse off the floor. He set it on the bench before grabbing her light coat and giving her a quick kiss on the forehead. Then he turned to the closet to hang it up. “Okay, I will borrow a car from Jasper.”

Leticia cleared her throat loudly. He looked back at her. “You can use my car,” she said.

He stared, then shook his head and pulled the phone from his ear and cupped his hand over the speaker. “You might need your car for errands.”

She shrugged. “Let’s see what the day brings. I could go with you to get them, or you can drop me off and get them if I am busy. And your son and daughter-in-law can stay here. They don’t need to waste money at a hotel. I have the room.”

His eyebrows lifted. “I wouldn’t want to put you out─”

She glared at him, affronted.

“Okay, thanks.” He raised his hands in surrender before shifting back to the phone. “Hi Leaf, change of plans. Leticia graciously offered for me to drive and pick you guys up, and you both can stay here at her place, instead of a hotel.”

She watched as he tilted his head, listening to his son. She made her way past him, toward the kitchen, and swatted his ass hard. She was in need of a glass of wine to sip while she curled up on her couch and fell asleep watching a movie. She was bone tired.
