I feel as though I should be popping champagne and celebrating, not sitting at my desk pouring over paperwork.

As of six thirty this evening, Cade’s contract is in, and from what I’ve seen, it has everything we agreed to, with a few small added perks.

This is a feather in my cap; this is a signing I can point to and build a budding career upon.

Kate: Congratulations, handsome. Dad said you have Cade’s contract and the deal is all but done already.

Me: I’m going over the last of it now. He’s elated to be signing.

Kate: About that… I was hoping you could get him here next week to make it official?

Me: I can, he’s ready and said he’ll leave his days open.

Kate: I’m planning the media and signing. I need it to go off without a hitch.

The thought nags through my subconscious to the forefront of my mind again; why didn’t she tell me she was joining the organization? How does this affect us?

Does it?

Me: That’s right, congratulations are due to you too. He’ll be here when you want him.

Kate: Thanks!

Me: No problem. Why didn’t you tell me about your move?

Kate: It’s not officially official yet.

That’s weak. She could’ve told me it was on the table, but she chose not to.

Me: Got it. I’ll make sure to stay in close contact regarding Cade’s travel and arrival.

Kate: Thank you.

I set my phone down on its face, hiding the glowing screen against my desk. Why didn’t she tell me?

I don’t have time to think too hard on that now, and I’ve certainly not had enough to drink. Cade and I are set to talk on the phone in an hour, and it’s important I get through everything so we can discuss it all together.
