Step 2: Select Create New Field, and enter this in the text box: RecordID.

Step 3: Select YearEnd from the Group By (Optional) options.

Step 4: Write the following expression:

[Row-1:RecordID]+1

Step 5: Add the Browse tool to the Multi-Row Formula tool.

Step 6: Run the workflow:

RecordID field takes the previous row value and adds 1 for each YearEnd noted by the YearEnd Group By selection. As soon as a new YearEnd is identified [Row-1:RecordID]+1 will start a new count. This is great for identifying records by a group. More than one group can be identified by selecting more than one Group By option.
