♦ When the wax is fully melted, add the lavender. Stir gently until blended. (A disposable chopstick works nicely!)

♦ Cool the wax to about 155 degrees F, and slowly pour it into the jar. Leave ½ inch of headspace. (See photo #2, above.)

♦ In a warm place, let cool for 1 hour.

♦ Top off with more melted wax if needed to fill cracks or sinkholes. Allow the wax to fully harden in a warm area for at least 24 hours.

to use: Fragrance emerges not from the wick, but from a melted pool of wax, so before each use trim the wick to ¼ inch (nail clippers work well for this). On the first lighting, it’s important to let the candle burn long enough to melt the entire top surface of wax to prevent tunneling. This takes about an hour per inch of candle width, so burn a 2-inch-wide candle for at least 2 hours.
