15 – Beef & Lao Whiskey
The Lao whiskey in this dish creates high flames when you add your beef, so be careful as you cook. Any rice wine will work just as well, to bring out the unique flavor.
Makes 4 Servings
Cooking + Prep Time: 35 minutes + 30 minutes marinating time
Ingredients: • 2 diced cloves of garlic
• 2 tbsp. of whiskey, Lao if available
• 1 tbsp. of soy sauce, reduced sodium
• 1 tbsp. of oyster sauce
• 1 tsp. of fish sauce
• 1 tsp. of caster sugar (super fine)
• 10 & 1/2 ounces of sliced beef fillet
• 2 tbsp. of oil, vegetable
For the salad • 1 1/3 sliced handful of cilantro leaves
• 3 x 1”-cut spring onions
• 1 handful of torn watercress sprigs
• 5 torn leaves of butter lettuce
• 2 sliced tomatoes
Instructions:
1. Combine garlic, soy sauce, whiskey, oyster sauce, sugar and fish sauce in medium bowl. Mix till sugar has dissolved.
2. Add beef. Toss it and coat it well. Cover bowl. Allow to marinate for 1/2 hour.
3. Arrange salad on platter.
4. Heat fry pan till smoking hot. Then add oil. Wait till it starts smoking. Add beef. BE CAREFUL because flames will rise. Toss for one minute or less.
5. Add one pinch ground pepper. Arrange beef on salad. Serve.
