Rhiannon gets me home safe, but when I try and ask her upstairs, she shakes her head.

Somehow, I’m not surprised at all that she’s turned me down, even after everything we just went through together.

After all, she does seem a little bit distracted at the moment. We hardly talked on the cab ride back to my apartment, and now, standing face-to-face, she still won’t meet my gaze.

“See you at the stitch n’ bitch?” I try.

She finally looks at me, a relieved smile crossing her face. “Yeah,” she agrees, and nudges forward to kiss me.

I close my eyes and kiss her back, draping my arms over her shoulders. She leans into me with a sigh.

I should probably care more that we’re in public, that people can see us, but I’m still on cloud nine from my ultrasound and any bigots in our vicinity can fuck off with the anti-choice protesters.

I break off the kiss. “You sure you don’t want to come up?” I ask, not caring if I sound needy.

This time she looks a little more torn, but she still says no.

Okay, fair enough. It was a pretty crazy intense afternoon. Maybe she needs some time to decompress.

Maybe I need some time to decompress.

“No problem,” I reassure her. “Thanks for coming today. I really appreciate it.”

“Thanks for including me.” It’s a genuine statement, not an expected polite answer.

I can’t help but kiss her again.

This time it’s quick and chaste, and I pull back with a blush. “I’m sorry. I’m letting you leave. Really.”

She laughs. Doesn’t let go of my waist.

“Go. Go go go.” I peel out of her arms.

We’re like two lovesick teenagers at the end of a six-hour-long phone call: You hang up! No you hang up!

“I’m going. I’m going!” She turns away from me.

Turns back around again.

Kisses me once more.

My heart is melting.

“Okay, now I’m really going,” she says. “Get inside that apartment and lock the door behind you before I lose my will and follow you up there.”

We’re both laughing as we part.
