Chapter 17
Sheâd caught him off guard. Not sure what he was expecting from her but needing to take a shower to get his smell off her, she pushed around him and into the tiny bathroom, closing the door behind her.
She leaned against it, even knocked her head a couple of times. Of all the stupid things to do, letting him back inside her had to be the stupidest. But the very best of mistakes, her body taunted her. He was all the things sheâd never allowed herself to want, and his body showed how much he wanted her in the most timeless of ways.
This wasnât good. Twice would have to be enough for a lifetime. She glanced in the mirror, noticed the crack that went from one edge to the other bisecting it in half, and also saw her reflection broken in two.
Briste.
Never. She had too much to do. She showered quickly, the feel of her own hands reminding her of his. He was a tremendous lover. He made her forget her sexual creation at the hands of monsters. Nothing but his taste, touch, and feel had permeated the space between them.
And she couldnât allow it to happen again. Not and keep the small amount of sanity she could still claim.
She washed her hair, rinsed, and stepped out of the shower stall. He was still on her. In her. Blade knew then sheâd never get rid of the tactile feel of him.
She hadnât brought clothes with her into the bathroom so she wrapped a towel around her, laughing softly when it didnât do much to cover her. She scrunched her hair into tight ringlets and let it lay where it fell against her head.
Then she walked out into the living area, searching immediately for threats. Finding none, and finding no hint of Nodachi, she located her duffel and began dressing. It took her about five minutes and by the time she was finished rain was falling in earnest on the rooftop, the sound lulling and making her sleepy.
Nodachi entered the shack then and headed for the small microwave over the stove. He opened it, pulled out a steaming plate of food, and sat down to eat.
She got a sandwich. He got hot food.
âThereâs plenty,â he muttered between bites.
She ignored him. So much for it not being awkward.
Instead of paying him any attention, or God forbid, rehashing the last hour of their time together, she picked up her computer and sat on the edge of the bed. Within moments, she had pulled up the Ballycastle local newspaper and picked through it for any signs of anything out of the ordinary. There wasnât and Blade could only hope that held until she could make it back to the girl.
âIâm going to shower,â he informed her before heading back into the bathroom with his duffel.
She nodded at him to let him know she heard and then went back to her research. So much information could be had at the touch of the keys on the keyboard.
