My eyes opened to the white fluorescent lights of a hospital room.

Arthur stood holding my hand, his face ashen. Slowly, he laid it on the bed and stepped back with a shaky breath. He sat down in the hospital chair as if his legs could no longer hold him.

Energy flowed through my body. Every nerve hummed. Every cell. Every molecule. Life infused me. I sat up and swung my legs over the side of the bed. I wriggled my toes. The rough fabric of my hospital gown bit into my thighs and back. I felt. I stretched my arm up high and neither stomach or spine protested.

My eyes fixed on Arthur, who sat like a blond god fully occupying a tiny plastic chair. I let out a breath. “You healed me.”

“Yes. I saw it. I saw you.” Confusion lit his gaze, partially afraid and partially something… other. Arthur splayed his hands out in front of him and stared at them as if they were not his. “I healed you. But I don’t know how.”
