“Of course, I’ll do it.”

“Rowena, I don’t trust these people. It could be dangerous.”

Laila and I went to work, but dropped by Rowena’s place to talk to her first. We had to drive the curves and steep hills of Coldwater Canyon, but we were too worried to enjoy the drive.

When we got there, we found out that she had already started working. Alex had sent her what she needed to get into the website with the pictures and redesign it. She had spent hours already figuring out the best way to present the pictures.

“Laila, maybe you can talk some sense into her.”

Rowena lived in a one bedroom apartment in Van Nuys. Books and papers were piled everywhere, including on a couple of chairs. The only place to sit was the folding chair next to a small table. Her desktop computer was on the table, with two screens.

“Sorry about the tiny place,” Rowena said. “It’s my dad’s friend’s. He’s away for six months and said I could house sit.”

“Nice of him,” I said. “I still think you shouldn’t get involved in all this.”

“Alex must have had a reason to ask for her,” Laila said. “And we need her.”

Laila’s steady gaze told me that she would do anything to get Bree back.

“Some sinister worldwide conspiracy can hire all the computer nerds there are, but they want a girl who’s barely in her twenties?”

Rowena turned her head and stuck her tongue out at me. “I’m better than all of them.”

“I want to talk to you first, tell you how dangerous this is…”

“Check this out.” Rowena turned one of the screens so we could see it. “This is just a concept, I haven’t put it up yet.”
