I heard someone knocking on my front door, and Max growled. I had just gotten Kelsey to sleep, and I had a ton of cooking to do for tonight, so I hurried to answer the door before Kelsey woke up. A very handsome man stood there. He was tall and broad. I had to tip my head back to talk to him. He had the greenest eyes I had ever seen. He carried a sleeping little boy.

“It would be best if you never answered the door without asking who was on the other side. I don’t see a peephole,” he said when I opened the door.

“You’re right. Dang, I have to start remembering that. How can I help you?”

“I’m renting Kash’s place for a few weeks, and I can’t find his key anywhere. He said it would be under a pot, and it’s not. You wouldn’t happen to know where one would be, do you?”

“Hang on, I’ll call him. I just can’t let you in without talking to him first.” I picked up my phone and called Kash. He answered on the third ring. “Kash, there is a guy here who says he’s renting your home. He can’t find the key. I hope this isn’t your friend who you wanted to watch over me.”

“That would be Marc. He’s a retired Navy Seal; he needed to get away and relax for a while. I did not hire him to guard you. I put the key under the pot in the backyard. Would you please put him on the phone?”

“I will, but he’s holding a sleeping child in his arms.”

“Hello, Kash, sorry I had to bother your neighbor. Now that I know where the key is, I’ll unpack my vehicle.”

“Damn you’re fast?”

“Yes, I am. Thank you. I’m sorry to bother you,” Marc said, handing me back the phone.

“Why don’t you lay your son on my sofa while you unload your vehicle?”

“Are you sure? That would help me a lot.”

“Of course.” I picked up Kelsey’s blanket and laid it out on the sofa. And he walked in and laid the child on my couch. Then he paused for a brief second. I knew what he was thinking. He must have been wondering to himself if I was a serial killer or a child kidnapper. “I’m very trustworthy. We can leave the door open.”

“Okay, thanks.”

“I understand completely.”

I watched as Marc kissed his son on the forehead, then he left to unpack his vehicle. So, Kash lets service people stay at his place while he’s gone. Kash has so many good qualities. I’m sure he also has plenty of women to keep him company. Not only am I ordinary, but I also have five kids. I knew after he kissed me, he regretted it. He hasn’t tried anything since that day. Oh, well, that’s my life.

“Thank you. I’ve unloaded my vehicle. It’s incredible how much you have to pack when you have a child.”

“He’s very handsome.”

“Thank you. Adam is my life.”

“I know what you mean.”

“I thought you must have a child when I saw the baby blanket.
