The Warehouse

Tyler

Kera found a private room with a computer. She punched up an earthly map and used the warehouse address to lock in their location.

“See, this is where we are,” she said. Kera sat by the computer, Tyler looking over her shoulder. “But there’s so many warehouses. More than a few blocks of warehouses.”

“But that’s not our concern,” said Tyler. “I’m only concerned with…”

Kera shook her head. “That is where you’re wrong.”

Tyler paused. “What do you mean?”

“It’s not just this warehouse, Tyler, it’s all of them. There are underground tunnels connecting all these warehouses. Makes it easier to work unnoticed. Your friends can be anywhere and are more than likely in different places, possibly even different warehouses. It could take us all night to find them.”

“Then it takes all night,” he shouted. Kera shot him a stare of disappointment. “I’m sorry,” he said, shaking his head. “I just want my friends.”

Kera returned to the monitor. Her tentacles continued to stare at Tyler. She zoomed in on one warehouse, craned her neck, zoomed in closer then pointed. “See this?”

Tyler surveyed the area where her finger was pointing. “Looks like a shop or store or something.”

Kera shook her head. “Looks like it, but it’s not. You see, this is the solstice celebration and what the solstice requires is an entrance point for all the… human guests.”

Tyler shook his head. “What does that mean?”

“It means, Tyler, that I’m sure this store is serving that purpose for this year’s Cannibal Café.”

“Cannibal Café?”

“Correct.”

“You mean…” Kera nodded. Tyler took a deep breath.

Kera continued, “Also, see how the shop is attached to the warehouse?”

“I do.”

“Ok, so, since people are arriving at the shop, more than likely this attached warehouse is where Jiggly will hold the celebration. Knowing Jiggly, it will be easier to escort everyone here than transport them across warehouses.” She turned to Tyler. “Jiggly likes it when things go smoothly.”

Tyler shook his head. “So, you’re saying you think my friends are there?”

“I’m saying that it’s highly possible and more than probable that they are there or in one of the adjacent warehouses very close to the shop. Jiggly will want everyone in close proximity in case he has to make on-the-fly changes or additions… depends on when the masters arrive. Sometimes they like to go all out if you know what I mean?”

Tyler cocked his eyebrows. “I don’t.”

Kera pursed her lips, said, “Hmm. Let’s keep it that way.”

“You’re telling me. So, what’s the plan? Where exactly are we?”

Kera turned to the monitor, then gripped the mouse and clicked the zoom controls on the screen. A second later the screen changed, the store they were looking at growing smaller and smaller as the blocks of warehouses became prominent. She pointed. “Here.”

Tyler looked at the monitor. His heart sank with the revelation that his warehouse was two blocks away from where they needed to go. He shook his head. “Why are we so far away from everyone else?”

Kera paused. Tyler craned his head to see her. Looked like she was thinking.
