Chapter 26

Within thirty minutes Sabrina was gone with the children and the evening stretched out before Natalia. “We haven’t had a whole weekend to ourselves in a long time,” she told Dean.

He agreed. “So, what do you want to do?”

“Table any topics that will ignite an argument.”

“I can do that.”

In the living room, Natalia and Dean settled on the sofa.

She grabbed the remote to turn on the television and turned to their favorite crime drama show to binge watch. For the next four hours, they lost themselves in the world of actors in life-and-death situations.

“I’ve been thinking that we should celebrate our wedding anniversary on a cruise. What do you think?” Natalia asked.

“A cruise to the Mediterranean.”

“Yes,” she agreed. “I’ll call the travel agent on Monday morning.”

They made a simple meal of grilled chicken and a garden salad.

“This is really nice,” Natalia said. “I love our kids, but I want more of this—quality time with you.”

“We’ve both been a bit distracted lately.”

Natalia did not respond but she knew his comment was mostly directed at her. She’d been so focused on Jessica since the witch got out of prison. Although she knew the day was coming, Natalia never expected it to be so soon.

“We need to get back to having weekly date nights.”

“Huh,” she murmured. “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear what you said.”

“I was talking about date night. We should have one each week.”

Natalia smiled. “I agree.”

“Then let’s get started,” Dean said, holding up his iPhone.

Her heart swelled with the familiar music and the beats resounded in the blood that flowed through her veins.

Natalia swayed to the music. “I love this song.”

Dean took her by the hand.

Together they moved their bodies to the rhythm.

As the music continued to play, Natalia raised her arms over her head, as she danced. She arched her back, arms still thrown over her head, and trusted that Dean would keep her safe.

If only she could trust him to do the same in real life.
