The world was a dark and dangerous place, and Brock knew it, but today not even the promise of his mate could make things better.

This whole mess gave him the willies. The tactics reminded him of his ex.

Brock had been wet behind the ears and horny as hell when Malvino Oliveria had sunk claws into him and ripped him in two. Now he was older, and he had fucking rage. This bastard Hetrick was coming after them?

Brock would show him what was what. He would happily tear the motherfucker in pieces and leave him to bleed out.

Brock wasn’t about to go backward after they’d rebuilt the whole business from the ground up. He had a pack, Mick’s misfit pack, and he had Griz. He would wage war like no one had ever seen.

Griz glanced at him sideways. “Where do we arm ourselves?”

“In my rooms.” He slipped in the side door and jogged up the stairs before Griz could complain about the cops.

Griz followed without a word. His lover was focused in work mode, he had to admit. They made their way up, silent and quick. He opened his rooms and went to the gun safe hidden behind a bookcase. He wasn’t going in blind this time.

“What about magicks like in the air ducts?” Griz murmured. “What do we have for that?”

“Nothing. Who the fuck does this?”

“This guy, apparently. Better than dire crocs.” Griz said it deadpan, but by the time he glared over, Griz was grinning.

“Deus, you’re so funny. Engraçado.”

“I am.” Griz nodded firmly, checking the grip of a Glock.

Brock loaded his ankle holster and his shoulder holster, and then he slipped a couple of knives on his belt.

“Let’s stop by the kitchen,” Griz said, surprising him.

“Not the time for the munchie, doce.”

Griz rolled his eyes, then turned on his heel and headed off. Brock followed, nose and eyes working. Griz wasn’t mad, at least not at him, and he thought his lover wasn’t hungry either.

It said something that he trusted Griz enough to pad along behind.

They got to the kitchen, where Griz began rummaging. “Salt. Sage. Basil is good for exorcism….” Griz loaded spices into a bag.

“Are you serious?” Huh. Maybe Locke was onto something. Did they have any real silverware?

“Yep. Oh, lemons. If the magical cleansing doesn’t work, I can squirt them in someone’s eyes.”

“I like it. Grab some limes too.” Who knew when they’d come in handy?

Griz took a whole ton of stuff, including minced garlic. They would have to shop for Kit and Rey, who cooked, before they came back.

“We’ll get some holy water on the way.”

“Is it still holy after you touch it, bear?” he teased.

“Shut up.” Griz bared those straight, white teeth. Made him think things. Bad things to be thinking when he was hunting bad wolf.

“I just want to make sure you won’t burst into flames in the church….”

“What church?” Griz raised his brows.

“Uh… the holy water’s in St. Francis, right?”

“Oh, right.” Griz snorted. “I was all confused for a moment.” And disappointed, if he was reading Griz right.
