Chapter Twelve

Sean

I watch Indigo’s car disappear into the woods, following the track, until it disappears.

“Come back,” I whisper under my breath, hoping she’ll stop, that her brake lights will appear and then her reversing ones, and she’ll come back to me… that I can run down the stairs and throw open the door, and take her in my arms.

She doesn’t, although I wait for a good ten minutes after her lights have finally faded, staring at the spot where I last saw them.

She’s not coming back.

Not that I really understand why she left.

Okay, so she said it was so I could work, but at seven o’clock at night? What does she think I’m going to achieve? Even if evenings are often a good time for me to write, I know I won’t get anything done when my head is too full of her to even think straight.

Dammit.

Eventually, I wander back over to the bed and sit down on the edge, then turn and pick up the bowls of cold rice. I’m not in the mood for eating now, and I put them back on the tray and move it to the floor, getting into bed and pulling up the covers.

I’m sulking, and I know it… and I don’t care.
