Using the information he’d found in the letter to the History of Ireland magazine, Frankie undertook some further research and came across something that stopped him in his tracks, Well I’ll be dammed! Is this the proverbial smoking gun? Frankie’s cell signaled an incoming call. He looked, an international number....

“Hello Frankie Armstrong.” Becker had the slightest hint of an accent but otherwise spoke flawless English.

“Hello, Mr. Armstrong, my name is Detective Karl Becker. I work in the BKA, the Federal Criminal Police Department in Germany I think you may be expecting my call, yes?”

“I am yes. How can I help Mr. Becker?”

“We’re curious why you’re making enquiries about Otto Kellerman. What is the American angle may I ask?”

“At the moment, it’s an informal investigation into a missing artifact. Detective Sam Randazzo of the Naples Police department asked me to look into matters on his behalf. It’s a long story, but the condo complex I live in in Naples, is also near to Roman Plaza where Otto Kellerman and his wife have a condo, an apartment.”

“Yes, we are aware of the condo in question. Is Herr Kellerman suspected of involvement in the theft of this artifact? And if so, how valuable is this item?”

“Last question first. The item is potentially worth a huge amount of money. I don’t think I’m at liberty to tell you precisely what it is, but I can tell you it is an item of jewelry. And there’s no evidence currently that would suggest Mr. Kellerman’s involvement in the theft.” Frankie went on to explain the situation regarding Sean Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy. Karl Becker remained silent and didn’t interrupt. When Frankie had finished, Becker spoke.

“Okay, I understand. I will text you my contact details and perhaps you will let me know if there are any developments that involve Herr Kellerman. Is there any information you would like from me?”

“The obvious question,” said Frankie. Why did you react in the way you did to our enquiry about Kellerman?”

“Are you a police officer Mr. Armstrong?”

“No, I am a partner in a security company in the UK. I happen to live in Naples as a long-term condo renter. Detective Randazzo and I have collaborated on a previous investigation, so he asked for my help in investigating this matter. I understand if you feel you can’t tell me about a confidential police matter, so maybe it would be better if you spoke directly to Detective Randazzo.” There was silence on the line. “Hello” said Frankie thinking maybe the connection had been lost.

“Yes, I’m still here,” said Becker, “I think in the circumstances I can tell you why we’re looking at the activities of Herr Kellerman. I assume you have done some research into Kellerman and know that he’s an art dealer?”

“Yes, I do,” said Frankie.

“Did you also know his father was a high-ranking officer in Hitler’s High Command?”

“Yes, I found that out by doing some basic enquiries on the internet.”

“Okay, well we suspect that during the Third Reich, Kellerman’s father,
