The weekend is a blur: laundering every stitch of linens for our parents, and cleaning and putting everything to rights in their home. The orange shrubs and jade plant are goners, poor things. We end up piling all the soil into two pots and Cass stows it all in the garden shed. I can’t bring myself to do it. For a break, he drags me out to buy a new phone and laptop. Relentlessly cheerful, he refuses to let me obsess over why someone would trash my things like that while he helps me restore everything from cloud backups. Yay for foresight and hiding sticky notes with account passwords in filing cabinets, I guess. He also makes sure I text the cops so they all have my contact info. Only Naomi replies with more than a one-word acknowledgement.

I’m so sorry bout ur parents place.
