WORD TO THE WISE: Beats and Transitions

If you use transitions in your movie, as described on About Transitions, here’s some timely advice.

A simple cut to a beat almost always looks good, because the cut is just as quick as the beat itself. But transitions, like cross dissolves (Adjust Automatic Transitions), generally last longer than a beat, so they won’t line up with the beat as precisely.

You’ll encounter this problem no matter what kind of transition you use. When you add a transition between two beat-aligned clips (by placing it yourself or by having automatic transitions turned on [Automatic Transitions]), iMovie puts the beat in the middle of the transition. To correct for this, you can adjust your clips in the storyboard or with the Precision Editor.
