I t had been a while since Harper, Marley, Lacey, and I had all been able to have lunch at the same time.

Between Marley’s health scare—which she had completely recovered from, thank God—to the general day-to-day craziness that seemed to define our jobs, I couldn’t remember the last time we’d all been in the same place at once.

But here we were at our regular table in the hospital cafeteria, laughing and telling stories like we hadn’t even missed a day.

And for me, this lunch couldn’t have come at a better moment.

My date with Hux the night before had gone so well that I thought I might actually burst if I didn’t tell someone about it soon, and I knew the only people who would truly understand the whole situation with Matt, Aaron, and Hux were these women.

“So how has your dating life been going lately, Kendall?” Lacey asked, giving me a knowing smile from across the table. I’d kept her in the loop more than anyone, but even she didn’t know about last night. The last I’d told her for sure was that I wanted to take things slowly.

“Busier than I’m used to,” I admitted. “I went out with Hux last night, as a matter of fact.”

All of the other conversation at the table immediately stopped as everyone turned their attention toward me.

Lacey’s eyes widened as she gestured for me to continue. “You can’t just leave us hanging like that. Spill! Where did you guys go? How was it? Was it just the two of you? What about Matt and Aaron?”

I laughed at the rapid-fire questions and took a deep breath. There was

going to be a lot of catching up to do with the other girls, but I’d do my best.
