I walked through the school hallway after getting the stuff from my locker for my morning classes, only to bump into Parker.

“I’m sorry for your loss, man.” He paused for a second. “I can’t imagine what you’ve been feeling for the last few days.”

Smart move. Trying to tell me how to feel would’ve been a mistake. Sympathy was one thing, yet my emotions were my own, and I needed to feel whatever I was feeling. Or try to, at least. Doing so was the only way to move on from Darien.

“Thanks,” I said.

“Anyway, has Geneva seemed off?”

I crossed my arms. “Why would you think that?”

“She’s been distant.”

Decisions. Decisions. I could either keep Geneva’s secret about her being late and how she could’ve been pregnant or I could betray her confidence. No. I couldn’t do that. If Geneva wasn’t ready to tell Parker about her problem, then I’d respect her choice. I couldn’t tell Geneva how to live her life.

The bell screeched.

“Geneva seems fine to me,” I lied.
