“Try drawing a crime wave,” Iggy said. “Because that’s what we’d be in if it weren’t for—”

“Be quiet,” said Maribel. “For once in your life.”

“Whoosh, whoosh,” said Molly. She was still shaking her stomach. “Oh no! There’s a boat!” She drew a little boat on her stomach.

“Mom!” yelled Maribel. “These guys won’t leave me alone!”

“Kids! Let Maribel read!” said Iggy’s mom, appearing in the doorway.

“Why do we have to be quiet?” asked Iggy (reasonably). “Isn’t this the family room? Aren’t we the family?”

“Well—” began Mom.

“Mom!” moaned Maribel. “I’m in a really exciting part. Make them go away.”

“All right, all right,” said Mom. “Molly, sweetie, you come and help me start dinner. Iggy, go find someplace else to be.”

“This is totally unfair!” Iggy roared. He kicked a table leg. “Has Maribel been outside fighting crime all day? No! Why is she the boss of this house when I’m the one protecting it!”

Iggy’s mom sighed. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Iggy. But you need to go to your room and cool down.”

“Time-out for Iggy,” said Molly. She waved. “Bye, Iggy.”

They should be showering him with thanks. They should be carrying him around on their shoulders. They should be giving him a trophy.

Instead, they were sending him to his room.

His family did not deserve him.

Iggy stomped upstairs.
