NOT DEFINED BY LOVE

Contrary to what the very rude voice in your head might say, you’re not defined by love. Being single doesn’t make you half a person and there’s no time limit on finding love either – there’s nowhere that you’re uninvited or disinherited because you’re not one half of a perfect couple, apart from those “couples” cruises (oh, no!). You’re guaranteed to feel low if you’re constantly questioning your ability to love and be loved, so try to view dating as a way to meet new friends and enjoy new experiences rather than pressuring yourself and the people you’re meeting into something more.

And don’t treat your singledom like a waiting room, as if you’re “waiting” for your life to get interesting. Being solo is the best time to invest in yourself and discover what makes you tick, without having to consider another’s feelings. You answer to nobody, and if you want to head down the Amazon in a kayak, there’s no need to wait until some adventurous type sweeps you off your feet and organizes it for you. If you want to build your own house, start researching and get on with it. Plan for your own future security and make things happen. It’s all there for the taking and your friends will be with you all the way – and they won’t get grumpy when you’re not paying them enough attention.
