As users of the internet, we have all made decisions based on reviews by others. Whether a review encourages us to do something — a 4.8-star restaurant would catch anyone’s eye — or persuades us not to — a 2.1 out of 5 stars company isn’t one you likely want to give your business to — it’s an integral part of that decision-making process.

On Google, these reviews are arguably even more important than on any other platform. This is because your rating isn’t just impacting people’s decision-making habits, it’s playing a role in your organic Google search ranking.

There’s strength in numbers, so encourage your current and past customers to write a review for you on Google. Maybe include a link to the review page on emailed receipts, or include a small reminder (nothing too over-the-top) in a regular email newsletter. If someone’s written a nice comment on your Facebook or Instagram, reply thanking them, and suggest that they could perhaps write a quick review on Google ‘so that more people can have the same great experience you did’.

Of course, in addition to making those kinds of requests for comments on other platforms, it’s important to respond to reviews on Google, too. Thank people for kind reviews, personalising the content wherever possible.
