Rumination Quick Guide

For reference, here is a recap of how to overcome rumination. There will also be a summary in the last chapter.

Rumination is a focusing problem—you’re looking into the past with regret (or hope for a time machine) instead of looking at what you can do now to live your best life. Whenever you catch yourself ruminating on anything negative about your past, here’s what you can do to turn it around:

1. Accept the past as unchangeable. At your selected daily cue (time, location, or following another habitual activity), take a moment to reflect on and accept the finality of the past. This is good practice to develop a “present mindset.”
