The Ming oppressed the Jianzhou (Jurchen clan) and favored two other clans, the Hada and Yehe.

The Ming violated the agreement made with Nurhaci in the past. (The Ming agreed to have marked borders between Ming lands and lands settled by the tribes, but the Ming ignored the agreement. The Ming also gave Nurhaci the power to regulate Jurchen activities and commerce but then undermined him.)

The Ming sent forces to protect the Yehe clan in their conflicts with the Jianzhou. (The Ming had agreed not to interfere with Nurhaci’s duties. It was Nurhaci’s responsibility to protect the Yehe.)
