Ifeel like I’m floating on air as I stroll into the general store, having taken a quick shower and donned a clean set of clothes after returning from my hike with Will.

I still can’t believe the insane turn my day—my life—has taken. I never in a million years imagined I would share part of the Hideaway Hot Springs with anyone, let alone a gorgeous, naked man who licked my core until I thought I might actually see God. Just thinking about Will’s hot tongue between my thighs, his lips wrapped around my clit as he gently sucked me into oblivion, has my pussy throbbing anew.

I shake my head and focus on the task at hand—getting the ingredients for the dinner I’m making with Will. I love the idea of us cooking together, working as a team. It reminds me of the relationship my grandparents had, they were partners in every sense, they always balanced and complemented each other. Could that be what it would be like, being with Will forever? Marrying him? I shake myself again, it’s way too early to be thinking like that, no matter how good and right it might feel.

I quickly pick up everything we need for dinner, and head to the checkout. I see Ella working at the register—she smiles at me brightly as I patiently wait for her to finish ringing up the customer in front of me.

I’ve known Ella since high school when her family moved to Hideaway Mountain, and recall how friendly she always was, how much she always tried to be my friend. By the time we meet I was already jaded though—not letting anyone close—so she eventually gave up on me and found another group, which wasn’t hard with her pretty, pixie-like face and sunny disposition.

Recalling this, I’m suddenly flooded with shame. How many relationships did I sacrifice over the years, out of fear? Who knows, Ella and I could have been the best of friends. I resolve then to make an effort with her, even if it might be too little too late. After what has happened with Will, I feel like almost anything is possible.

I load my items up onto the conveyor belt as the customer in front of me pays, my eyes idly moving over the rack of magazines next to the register. I’m about to look away and greet Ella with my newfound enthusiasm, when an entertainment magazine catches my eye.

There is a picture on its cover of a handsome man in a tuxedo with dark blonde hair and familiar blue eyes, his arm wrapped around a beautiful woman with long auburn hair in an elegant gown. There is a jagged white line separating them down the middle, as though to make the picture appear fractured. The headline reads: “Clarke Montgomery and Ashlyn Addison’s public split—Clarke disappears from Hollywood after learning about Ashlyn’s new man.”

I grab the magazine off the shelf, and for a moment I freeze as I look into the face of the man I just spent the most amazing day of my life with.
