Chapter Eight

I was a fucked-up nigga. I wasn’t supposed to take her virginity last night. I was feeling Eliana more than any female I’d ever encountered. I wanted to have her as mine from the moment I saw her, but I also wanted to wait until all this was over and pursue her the right way, a way that Mr. Jamison would approve of. Now, I was just some grimy ass nigga that had taken advantage of her while following his father's orders.

When she was crying out for me to make her forget her troubles, I lost my reserve. Now, I was tasked with the job of carrying her out into the forest and leaving her. My father thought for sure Issa was dead, and he believed that maybe Eliana would meet the same fate if she got lost in the forest too. This shit was getting out of hand. We were only supposed to take Issa for a few days so Eliana would agree to sign their family business over to her sister’s captors.

The plan was never for the girls to get hurt. It was the grace they’d been given for being Jamison’s daughters. I guess that grace didn’t extend to accidental deaths. The syndicate was ruthless that way. They saw a weakness in someone’s organization, and they pounced. It was no real loyalty, just a bunch of families that would stab each other in the back at any given second. My father was the head of it all. It was the main reason I wanted out of this shit. I just had to be sure that the time was right. Denouncing the syndicate would come with a lot of bullshit—no safety, no funds, and isolation. I had to have all my shit together before I pulled that trigger though. This thing with Eliana would force me to show my hand sooner rather than later.

“It’s c-colder than I thought it would b-be.” Eliana’s voice trembled.

Stopping my feet, I turned my head to face her. Her arms were wrapped around her body as she walked toward me. We’d been out here for three hours, and it had just begun to snow again. I wanted to suggest turning back, but my plan depended on us finding Issa or at least her remains.

“I’m too c-cold to continue,” she blurted, forcing me out of my thoughts.

Glancing at her, I smirked. Her little cute ass was freezing and rightfully so. I told her she wasn’t dressed properly for the weather before we left. The thin ass jacket and fur boots she wore were cute, but they weren’t meant to be worn outside for long periods of time.

“You wanted to be cute, remember?” I poked fun at her to lighten the mood. Eliana didn’t speak. Instead, she doubled over, resting her hands on her knees.

“El!” I quickly moved to her, scared that she might fall over. She was trembling, and I was sure it was from never having to face the cold before. Grabbing a blanket from my backpack, I wrapped her in it and threw her slim frame around my back.
