Chapter 8

The next day Jenn stared at her computer in a daze. Concentrate woman! Her mind kept drifting back to last night and this morning. Ryan had woken her before the alarm went off. What a wakeup call. Ooo la la. They had slept with him spooned behind her and she awakened to heated kisses on her neck. Her eyes weren’t even open when she felt an erection bumping into her backside. He’d put his arm under her leg, lifted it up, and slid home. Dear Lord, the man had moves. He’d gone home to shower and get ready for work after her wakeup call, and she hadn’t seen him since.

A knock on the open door drew her attention. Speak of the devil, there stood her heartbreak. She gave him a big smile. “Hello there.”

He strolled in with a cat-got-the-cream look. “Hello, Ms. Kowalski. How has your day been?”

“Not as good as last night and early this morning.”

“I was wondering if you’d like to get a bite after work.” She rolled her eyes at him. “Let me rephrase. Would you like to share dinner after work?”

“I would love to, Ryan, but I usually wolf something down on Tuesdays and Thursdays on my way to the rec center.”

He looked puzzled. “What do you do at the rec center?”

“I coach a girls’ basketball team in the fall. In the spring it’s volleyball. We practice on Tuesday and Thursday, and then have a weekend game. We’re seven-nil right now.” She beamed with pride.

“Wow. That’s cool. Can I come watch?”

“I’d like that. I usually pick up a deli sandwich or something on the way over. Is that okay with you?”

“Yeah. I’ll follow you home and we can ride together. Okay?”

“Sure.” He left and she knew she had a shit-eating grin on her face, but she couldn’t help it. Kate walked in with some papers in hand and stopped short when she saw the look on Jenn’s face.

“Where’d that smile come from?”

“Things are looking up in the love life department. That’s all.”

“Glad to hear it. I told you patience would pay off. I think he’s your ‘one’, Jenn.”

“We’ll see. Things are going good but that could change on a dime with that man. He has a lot of baggage.”

Kate walked behind the desk and showed Jenn what she had a question regarding. They discussed and then Kate left. Jenn saved her file on the computer and stared out the window.

Patience had paid off. She truly believed Ryan could be the “one.” The question was, if he felt the same.

Ryan followed her home and she changed her clothes. He offered to drive them to the gym and she accepted. Thank God. He hated being a passenger. It was a control thing. He liked being in the driver seat.

They stopped at a sandwich place on the way and drove into the drive-thru lane. While they waited in the line he glanced over at her. She was wearing plain shorts and a T-shirt, but they clung to every inch and looked luscious on her.
