Create Testing Standards

You have to be very careful when executing your tests. Otherwise, you can have a slip – up or miscommunication, which in turn can send your system crashing. Obviously, you do not want this to happen. Besides, one of the rules of ethical hacking is to not crash the system. You have learned about this earlier in this book.

In order for you to prevent these unpleasant occurrences, see to it that you develop and document your testing standards. In addition, see to it that you include the following in such standards:

The date and time in which the tests are done, along with their complete timeline

The specific tests that are performed

The amount of system knowledge required to do the testing procedure

The method used for performing the tests

The source IP addresses the tests are performed from

The actions necessary to be taken in the event that a major vulnerability or weakness is found
