“Get your hands off me,” Maverick demanded pushing the security men backward. “Where are they taking her?”

“It is none of your business, Mr. McGregor.”

“It is my business. Avalon was to meet me for breakfast, and now she’s being taken away in that car.”

“We cannot help you,” the taller man said.

Off to his left Maverick spotted Cappi Boswell.

“You can’t answer me, but you can be damned sure I’ll get some answers out of him.”

He stalked his way toward the short, calculating man who had manipulated his daughter at every turn.

“Where the hell is that guy taking Avalon?” Maverick demanded.

“Avalon is not your business. Let’s get that straight.”

Maverick could see the anger in the man’s face, but he was equally angry. “Why do you think you are some kind of god that can make people jump when you want? What you have done to your own daughter is wrong.”

“She is my daughter and I love her more than you will ever know. The decisions I make are best for her. They are also none of your business.”

“You’re wrong. She will not do what you want her to no matter what you threaten her with. She won’t.”

The father nodded. “She will, and her fiancé will ensure she does.” He waved in the direction of the departed cars. “It was her choice to go. She left on her own accord with the man she will marry.”

The man could have had horns growing from his head and hooved feet. It wouldn’t have surprised Maverick anymore than he already was. It didn’t make sense. They were to meet for brunch. She wouldn’t have just up and left. Would she? She did leave in a very fancy car with a very tall dark-haired man. He didn’t even have her phone number, if she even had a phone. What if he couldn’t get a hold of her?

He’d had enough of the man standing in front of him. Wasting his time and breath talking to the guy made no sense. Maverick needed to find Alex. He might be the only person who could help her.
