CHAPTER 28

Lynn regarded her friend at the end of a long Friday. “Hey, Poll, why don’t you take off? Willow and I can handle this.”

“I’m fine, just tired.”

“I know, so go! You’ve been covering for me and the morning throw-ups.”

“Dr. Blake says everything looks fine. My OB too.”

“Dr. Blake and your OB are not here. I am, and you look like a ghost. Now go.”

“I just wish we hadn’t lent Rusty to the camp today.”

“It’s fine. We survived. When Willow finishes cleaning up outside, she and I can tidy up in here. Not much to do, and I can come in Sunday to button up before the cleaning brigade arrives.” They were closing the Cottage for two weeks to allow Polly, Lynn, and the others to have a break. Leonora had professional cleaners coming Monday.

“But you have things to do.”

“And three days to do ’em. I’m not leaving till Wednesday, whereas you’re heading to Portland tomorrow, remember?”

“We could delay?” She, Kevin, and Jasper were traveling north to visit his family for a few days, then flying east for a week to see Polly’s parents and siblings.

“Absolutely not. Gigi’s called twice complaining about how your family gets you for longer than theirs.”

“She’s being ridiculous,” Polly said. She loved Kevin’s sister, but she was a pot stirrer. “We just saw the whole clan in June.”

“Anyway, please take off, sweetie.”

“Okay, but… Well… I’ll miss you.”

“Same here.”

“Did you arrange to meet up with Gus?”

“Maybe. We’ll see.”

“I’m sure he’ll move heaven and earth to make it happen.”

Lynn laughed, hugging her partner. Polly was visibly pregnant now, but rail thin. “Okay, Pollyanna, take care of yourself and eat!”

“You too. And good luck with the Morgans. It’s tonight, right?”

“Yup. Going over for a drink at six thirty.”

“They’ll be fine about it,” Polly said.

“We’ll see. Have a great trip.” Lynn waved as Polly turned at the door and blew her a kiss. “Go!”
