Norman Huckins is seen again in this picture of a mail delivery or pick-up outside the Gulfport Pharmacy. Norm is standing to the left of Police Chief Lloyd Holland; both men are wearing white shirts and ties.

Another member of Gulfport’s younger group was Betty Jane Montigney, shown here at the end of the decade. She later married Mert Barrs, a contractor who was instrumental in the construction of the new Methodist church.

In 1935, a group of citizens founded the first public library, shelving and cataloging 1,500 donated books in an abandoned one-room office. Mrs. Thorne and Miss Montigney were among those who volunteered to serve the 300 patrons. Soon a new building was donated and the Gulfport Public Library opened on the corner of Delett and Beach Boulevard, as shown here.
