Think of the animals we are now setting loose

To be pets in our yards, companions in our homes,

Some of them glowing, some of them cloned,

Some shrunk so small they fit in your pocket,

Some double-muscled and faster than rockets?

What would he think—what do you—

Of all the mixed-up creatures in our bioengineered zoo?

Are they even too strange for Gerald McGrew?

Dr. Seuss made up Yinks, Whos, Wockets, and Zax,

Sneetches, a Grinch, and an angry Lorax,

But he never imagined what we’re making today.

If he did, would he think yay or nay? Either way,

He’d probably say take care of them, don’t fear,

For a creature’s a creature, no matter how weird.
