The next day
It was a little bit after six in the evening, and I was sitting on the couch next to Kennedy while we were over Berniceâs house, which was Emoryâs mother. It was something about Bernice that I just loved. When we met for the first time, she hugged me like she had known me for years, even though we had technically just met. Emory and his brothers were lucky as hell to have her because there was no doubt in my mind that she loved her sons.
Bernice was the mother that I had envisioned for myself for so many years, especially when I was a little girl. You know how most kids have a wild imagination of what they would be when they got older? Instead of me having those thoughts, I often wondered what my life would have been like if I had two loving parents instead of two damn monsters. I wondered how it would have felt to wake up in the morning with breakfast on the table and go to bed at night with dinner as well.
Emoryâs parents were basically all that I ever dreamed of when I was a little girl because there was no doubt in my mind that they loved their sons.
True to Kennedyâs word, sheâd picked me up that morning and we went to breakfast, went to the spa, where Iâd had them do my hair, give me a massage, and a nice manicure and pedicure that was long overdue. Since the incident that landed me in the hospital, I really didnât care too much about my appearance. I didnât think that it bothered Emory either because he made sure to call me beautiful every chance he got.
After the pampering that I had done today, I will admit that I did feel a little bit more confident in myself, especially since my hair was done. While Kennedy and I were out for the majority of the day, Bernice had watched three of Kennedyâs kids while her oldest two were in school. Now, the three of us sat on the couch watching TV. Well, Bernice and I were watching TV while Kennedy was sitting next to me with her thumb in her mouth, knocked out. Her beautiful baby girl, Tiara, was on her chest knocked out as well.
It was a funny and cute sight to see because just like Kennedy, Tiaraâs thumb was in her mouth, and that little girl looked just like her damn daddy. Her little arm gripped Kennedyâs shirt with a tight fist while Kennedy had her other arm wrapped around her daughter in a protective manner, with her head thrown back on the head rest of the couch. This sleep that Kennedy was doing right now, I knew that it wasnât your typical tiredness. The way she just fell into a deep coma in the middle of us watching TV and the conversation that we were having prior to her falling asleep proved to me that this was a mother with five kids who was tired as hell.
