âWhat exactly are we supposed to do here, do you think?â Roy asked as they crested yet another of the rolling hills, seeing nothing but more lush landscape in the distance.
âI have no idea,â Geon said. âIn a Dungeon, youâd have run across a beast or monster by now, but this is all new to me. Could be anything really.â
That was hardly the answer Roy had been looking for, though he couldnât exactly fault Geon for not knowing something. They had to keep walking and hope the answers came to them soon.
After about an hour and a half of walking, the hills began to flatten and a line of trees appeared in the distance. At first, they were just a blurry shadow, but as they drew closer and the trees grew more distinct, Roy let out a low whistle.
âHave you ever seen trees like that?â he asked, turning to Violet.
âI think you already know the answer to that,â Violet said, shaking her head in clear fascination.
âYou donât think theyâre alive, do you?â Ferry asked.
âOh, theyâre most definitely alive,â Roy said, able to see much farther than the rest of them.
Additionally, his senses were keener and deeper, giving him more information than any of the others could have hoped to gather.
He was proven right as they drew closer, necks craning upward to see the tops of the trees. They werenât the tallest or widest trees any of them had ever seen â those would have been in Mountain Moore after the seals had been released â but what made them so fascinating was their uniqueness.
âItâs warm,â Ferry said, placing a hand on the trunk and sliding her palm over its surface.
Roy looked ahead, staring at the forest of pure crystalline trees. It was hard to believe that a place like this could exist. It literally went against the laws of nature for something as dead as a crystal to be this alive. Yet he could sense the life force running through the veins of the trees and feeding the flared leaves that hung from its branches.
A light breeze wafted through the treetops, sending the leaves rustling. When they collided, they unleashed a light musical note, and with so many trees, the forest was filled with the sound of chimes. It was absolutely beautiful.
âThese trees have no sap,â Snarl said, running his hand over the ridged bark. âChakra runs through them.â
âAre they some sort of construct?â Violet asked. âA form of golem perhaps?â
âNo,â Roy said, finally touching one of the trees and sensing the intricate matrix of channels within. âThereâs no Core, just channels.â
He closed his eyes, expanding his senses and following the roots of the trees into the ground. They were all hollow, pulling in all the Earth, Water, and Fire Essence it needed to survive. The Essence twisted through a complicated matrix of channels, eventually purified into Chakra where it was fed into the treeâs heart and distributed to the branches and leaves.
How something like this could have been made
