The woman begged and bargained with God to heal him. When he was near death, she was praying on her knees at his bedside and heard the Lord’s voice distinctly in her mind: Your husband has prepared himself to accept death and to die right now. Tell me, do you want him to prepare himself for death again—later on?

She opened her eyes and looked at his tranquil face.

“I knew right then I’d have to release him,” she said afterward. “I didn’t want him to go through that again—later on—so I released him. At that moment, a great peace settled over me. He died a few hours later. Both of us were at peace.”[18]

If this woman had continued begging for the extension of her husband’s life, her grief over his death likely would have been compounded by anger and pain. And then she would have missed what God wanted to do in their lives.
