CHAPTER EIGHT

We'd sat in the common area of our dorms for nearly an hour, discussing what we could do next to try to help Emma. None of us had any idea how to help a ghost find their peace.

I yawned just as a cold breeze swept through the room, making the hair on my arms stand up. Frannie, Amy, and I exchanged glances, our eyes wide with wonder as Hayden jumped to his feet and looked around.

"Did you feel that?" I whispered.

"Uh-huh," Frannie mumbled, her teeth chattering from the sudden chill.

Amy nodded. "It feels like someone's here with us."

We huddled closer together, scanning the room for any signs of a ghostly presence. Hayden stood in front of us in a defensive stand. It was nice of him, but what good could he do against a ghost? Frannie would be our best bet.

"Look." Amy pointed to a pen floating in the air. It began to write a message all by itself on a piece of paper. We watched in awe as the words appeared, each letter shaky and uncertain. When it finished, the pen dropped to the floor with a soft thud.

I quickly picked up the paper and read the words out loud:

"Help me."
