The location of this Saracen village – (population of 400) perched on a rock overhang 758 m (2500 ft) above the river Loup and some 15 km (9 mi) north-east of Grasse – is absolutely magnificent with breathtaking views over the valley. The castle built in the 13th and 17th century is privately owned but visitors do have access to the magnificent gardens designed by landscape architect André Le Nôtre (tour at 3pm and 5pm in summer | 5 euros). The village itself is an arts and crafts haven and home to perfume factory Galimard’s Boutique La Source Parfumée (rue principale | tel. 04 93 09 68 23 | www.galimard.com), which sources its raw materials from a seven acre garden with 350 different plants (3 km (1.8 mi) from the village in the direction of Bar-sur-Loup | March–Oct | 3 euros).
