Chapter Ten

The ship commander was fuming. This was the third time he was forced to rush out to examine the same power generator. This was getting on his nerves and the fact he and his crew had to stop whatever they were doing to answer the emergency didn’t make him any happier. It was the same thing all three times and whatever was going wrong in the generator hadn’t been corrected. The first two times, objects passed through the detection field but this time nothing went through. Whatever the problem was, it was getting worse. If it happened again he would insist on the power generator being replaced. He looked around the bridge and saw his crew was also just as frustrated as he was. Half of them had to rush up to the ship from the planet while they were enjoying their time off the ship. But…orders were orders, and they had no choice but to comply.

The large warship arrived at the power generator and entered normal space ten miles out. He looked over his shoulder and the scanning officer said, “The scans are clear.”

He nodded and said, “Launch the maintenance ship.” The ship moved out of the landing bay and he watched the bay door close on the external monitor. He pressed a button on his console shutting down all the scanners and communication systems. He watched the ship approaching the power generator and he pressed another button shutting the giant structure down.

A moment later, the ship was rocked, and all the lights and power went out. He jerked his head around and his chief engineer shouted, “The conduits to the generators have been cut!!”

“I thought you said the scans were clear!”

“They were!”

The Commander knew he had no choice. He lifted the cover on the self-destruct button, and he suddenly heard over the wall speaker, “Before you destroy your ship, I’m hoping you might have a short conversation with me.”

The Commander looked around the bridge, “WHO SAID THAT?”

The bridge crew were all looking at each other and he heard, “I hate that I was forced to disable your ship in order to speak with you, but I couldn’t risk you firing first.”

The Commander was stunned, and he asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m going to move my ship in front of your bow and allow you to see me.” Dany moved the scout in front of the huge ship and the Commander was stunned by how small it was. “I do not intend to destroy your ship or cause any more damage. I simply want to have a discussion with you.”

“It doesn’t matter if you cause anymore damage; everyone on this ship is going to die.”

“Surely that can be avoided.”

“You’ve cut the conduits from the generators and we have no means of making repairs. We’re going to run out of atmosphere and everyone on board will die. I’m going to destroy the ship before I allow my crew to die from suffocation. You’ve effectively killed all of us!”

Dany was stunned by the statement and said, “Surely help will be sent to assist you.
